bright-colored veggies

raw juices

cold-water fish

dark-colored fruits, etc.

Unfortunately, when it comes to exercising a lot of people are still reluctant to practice it, and one of the reasons is that they think they don't have enough time. Even for those who exercise regularly, many are still practicing the wrong type 2 diabetes exercises so they will keep being in a diabetic state.

The Benefits of Exercises for Diabetics

Exercising on a regular basis is beneficial to your health in general, whether you are diabetic or not, such as:

1. Reducing biological age 10 - 15 years

A Couple Precautions Before Exercising

You should discuss with your doctor before exercising, especially if complications such as heart disease and neuropathy have already developed. Also, don't forget to drink enough water before starting to exercise so that dehydration can be prevented. If dehydration occurs, your blood sugar levels can get higher.

3 Types of Exercises That Diabetics Should Practice

As what we've discussed before, many diabetes patients practice cardio exercises too much while there are actually 3 types of exercises that should be practiced in order to get the desired result, which is reversing type 2 diabetes.

1. Strength Training

Strength training involves the use of the resistance to muscular contraction to build the strength, anaerobic endurance, as well as size of skeletal muscles. You can perform strength training safely at home by lifting light weights. Other exercises include benchpress and abdominal crunch.

2. Aerobic Exercises

Basically, they are exercises that will increase your heart rate as well as raise your rate of breathing. Aerobic exercises include walking, running, dancing, playing tennis, swimming, stair climbing, bicycling,and many more.

2. Strength training: including weight lifting and water exercise (anaerobics)

3. Cardio training / cool-down - aerobics ( walking, running, bicycling) / anaerobics

The cool-down is meant to slow down your heart rate gradually. Do this about 5 to 10 minutes.

Tips to Optimize Your Exercises:

1. Increase your day-to-day physical activities (walking instead of driving when possible, taking the stairs, gardening, etc)

2. Begin your exercises with a low duration, about 10 to 15 minutes. Then, little by little work up to 30 to 60 minutes.

2. Exercise on alternate days for 4 times / week, instead of just 2 hours every weekend.

3. Gradually, increase your exercise frequency to 5 to 6 times per week.

4. Monitor your blood glucose prior to and after exercising. Stop exercising when it is more than 300. When it is less than 90, eat some snacks prior to exercising.

5. Get enough fluids as well as foods so you can do the exercises well.

6. For type 2 diabetics who are over 70 years old, more strength training is recommended to build muscle.

About DeWayne McCulley - Who Is He?

If you are living with type 2 diabetes, you should be inspired by DeWayne McCulley’s story.

McCulley is a former diabetes sufferer who is now an author, a diabetes educator, and has been the CEO of Death to Diabetes, LLC since 2002 with clients coming from all over the world.

Although McCulley doesn’t have a medical background, it was his experience as a Xerox engineer of more than 30 years that actually helped him reverse his diabetes naturally.

How come? Well, here’s the story…

With his engineering background, he actually used his experience of near-death diabetic coma and working with the American Diabetes Association’s support group to write the acclaimed Death to Diabetes - The 6 Stages of Type 2 Diabetes Control and Reversal (published in October 2005), of which the Death to Diabetes e-book (focusing only on the 10 key steps to cure diabetes) is based upon. His background in engineering research, writing technical reports, and test data analysis coupled with his diabetes education helped him a lot in reversing the disease and writing the book.

McCulley survived a near-death diabetic coma regardless of a blood glucose of 1337, which is 1200 points above the normal level. His endocrinologist stated that his diabetes was unique and that they did not have enough medical data about it. Since he was an engineer, he decided to collect more data to be able to draw conclusions. With the help of his daughter, Cynthia, McCulley started testing his blood glucose 7 to 8 times each day, instead of the suggested 3 to 4 times each day. In a month’s time, he got more data compared to a typical person with diabetes collects in 2 or 3 month’s time.

One day, he loaded insulin with a lower dosage for the next 3 to 4 days of insulin shots by mistake because of his blurry vision. His daughter noticed that his blood glucose readings did not get any higher, but they went a little lower instead. When he called his endocrinologist, he was told that the lower readings were in fact an anomaly. Again, as an engineer, he decided to perform further testing so he could collect more data.

Finally, he was able to use the data to wean himself off the insulin. In a month, he only had 15 units of insulin per day, instead of 60 units a day. In another 2 week, he was down to zero units.  3 months later, he then went back to visit his endocrinologist and his average blood glucose level was 87.5 mg/dl (for a diabetic, the average level is 150-190 mg/dl) and his hemoglobin A1C was 4.5% (the normal level is 4.3%-5.5%).

Another accidental thing that helped McCulley was when he had run out of cereals for breakfast. When he tried to get what was in the refrigerator, he found some Brussel sprouts. Although he didn’t like Brussel sprouts, he decided to heat them quickly with some olive oil and salmon. 2 hours after breakfast, he measured his blood glucose and the result was surprising: it hadn’t spiked like what had happened before.

As a result, he decided to get some Brussel sprouts for lunch, mid-afternoon snack, as well as dinner. He then replaced his cereal with a green vegetable as a source of carbohydrate. As time went by, his blood glucose levels were going down steadily. That’s why he recommends all diabetics to start their day with a superior breakfast.

Fast and Easy Super Meal Recipe to Fight Diabetes

Since diabetics need super meals in order to get the required nutrients, replenish the glycogen stores and start beating diabetes, here is one example of easy recipe you can try at home.

Diabetic Super Meal – Salmon with Broccoli


2 cups of fresh otherwise frozen broccoli florets
1 slice of soy cheese
2-3 oz. of wild salmon (baked)
½ sliced onion
½ red / yellow pepper
1 tsp. organic butter
1½ tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
1 glass of filtered water


1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Put the broccoli in a steamer with water. After that, place on the stove, and then turn on medium for approximately 10 minutes. Add part of an onion and pepper.

3. For additional flavor, you can sprinkle a pinch of cayenne powder on top of the salmon. You can also use garlic or peppers. To keep it moist, add a couple drops of extra virgin olive oil, put the salmon in the oven, bake it for about 18 to 20 minutes. Add a slice of soy cheese on the salmon, about 1 minute prior to removing from the oven.

4. When ready, take out the broccoli of the steamer and put in a small bowl. Add the extra virgin olive on top of the broccoli, and add a teaspoon of organic butter to help please your taste buds. If you like your broccoli hot and spicy, sprinkle 2-3 tbsp.

5. Take the salmon out of the oven; place it on a small plate.

6. Serve with a glass of water.
