Diabetes Natural Cure - Is Diabetes Actually Curable?

Can diabetes be reversed?

I have bad news and good news for you.

The bad news is..

Unfortunately, the answer is a “no” for type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent diabetes), although actually getting the proper diet as well as sufficient vitamin D can reduce the amount of insulin that should be taken.

And the good news is...

Fortunately, it is a “yes” for type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent diabetes), especially if it is diagnosed early. In The New England Journal of Medicine, Walter Willett, MD, PhD, states that 91% off all type 2 diabetes can be prevented.

Many people has proven that type 2 diabetes is curable, and they include DeWayne McCulley, an ex-diabetic, diabetic coma survivor, and author with a background in engineering and biochemistry who is also the founder of Death to Diabetes, LLC.

Type 2 diabetes can be reversed naturally without you having to spend thousands on drugs or medical costs. In fact, you should not be dependent on diabetic medications or supplements since they only treat the symptoms of diabetes, such as elevated blood sugar, instead of the root cause.

How to really cure diabetes naturally, then?

According to DeWayne McCulley,  there are 10 steps (which he applied to cure his own diabetes) you can do to start curing your diabetes:

1.       Increasing Your Diabetes Knowledge

You should know about diabetes, the causes, complications, what exercises you can do, etc. You can do this by going to the library, reading articles on websites, discussing with other diabetics, etc.

Check out the interesting video below where Mr. McCulley explains about the underlying causes and pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes:

2.       Including More Live Foods in Your Diet

Stop eating dead foods. To be able to reverse type 2 diabetes, you need to eat “live” foods such as:

bright-colored veggies

raw juices

cold-water fish

dark-colored fruits, etc.

By eating live foods you will be able to nourish, cleanse, and also repair your body's cells. Doing it on a regular basis will also reduce excessive insulin, prevent inflammation, as well as helps heal the body whether it is physically, emotionally, hormonally, or spiritually.

Note: A powerful specific diet for diabetes patients is the super meal model. Refer to this post to learn more.

3.       Stopping Processed Foods

As mentioned previously, avoid “dead” foods such as:

white flour

refined sugar

high fructose corn syrup

trans fats

animal meats

drugs (including alcohol and tobacco), etc.

Eating dead foods excessively will damage or kill your body's cells plus increase unhealthy cravings. If you are really serious on reversing diabetes, then you must avoid dead foods.

4.       Testing Blood Glucose More Frequently

You can perform blood glucose testing and evaluate your readings. When you feel that you’ve improved, you will get the motivation to continue your program of reversing diabetes.

5.       Exercising Regularly

Exercising is recommended for 4 times per week. You should also be more active physically, and try to take 5 to 10 minutes of walking one hour after having lunch and/or dinner. Check out the type 2 diabetes exercise article learn more.

6.       Performing Detoxification or Cleansing

Consume the proper nutrients to remove the toxins in your organs like colon, kidneys, gallbladder, liver, etc. DeWayne has provided what foods you can consume for detoxification, but you should ask your doctor to help you go through the process. Or, you can also perform detox by juicing therapy, exercise therapy, or drug weaning.

7.       Taking Food-Based Nutritional Supplements

Sometimes it is difficult to eat foods with the balanced nutrition in this fast-paced world. Therefore, taking food-based supplements can be beneficial. Remember that we are talking about "food-based" supplements here, NOT those pills made of synthetic chemicals that are commonly found in drug stores!

Food-based supplements should be consumed so that they can be absorbed and utilized by your body. Some natural supplements you can take include omega-3 EFAs, magnesium, cinnamon, cod liver oil, etc. When looking for supplements, make sure that they are clearly stated as food-based.

8.       Working with Your Doctor or Healthcare Professional

To be able to review your improvements, you should visit your doctor regularly. This way, your doctor will be able to offer treatment options, provide medical advice, and also suggest some resources. While working with your doctor, your job is to monitor the symptoms as well as blood glucose readings. After that, you should report the results accurately.

9.       Using Your Emotional Health

Emotional support will affect your results. This includes managing your stress and having a positive attitude. Surrounding yourself with fellow diabetics that are positive and hopeful can also be very advantageous in improving your health.

You can consult your doctor about a local support group, and you can also browse online for discussion boards.

10.   Developing Proactive Wellness Plan

Try to create a plan to eat, exercise, as well as test at the same time on a regular basis.

The above 10 steps are what Mr. DeWayne used to cure his diabetes. He has put everything in his e-book, Death to Diabetes. You can learn more about the complete 10 steps to reverse type 2 diabetes in his e-book.

So, is diabetes curable?

Yes, it is!

Diabetes and Exercises - Workout Tips for Type 2 Diabetics

Exercising Will Make Your Effort To Cure Diabetes More Effective

Besides getting the right nutrition, exercising is undeniably very important in controlling and even reversing type 2 diabetes.

Unfortunately, when it comes to exercising a lot of people are still reluctant to practice it, and one of the reasons is that they think they don't have enough time. Even for those who exercise regularly, many are still practicing the wrong type 2 diabetes exercises so they will keep being in a diabetic state.

The Benefits of Exercises for Diabetics

Exercising on a regular basis is beneficial to your health in general, whether you are diabetic or not, such as:

1. Reducing biological age 10 - 15 years

2. Stimulating the process of absorption, digestion, elimination, and metabolism.

3. Strengthening the heart, lungs, and blood vessels.

4. Relieving stress, etc.

However, for diabetics specifically, exercising is important in helping your body's cells accept insulin better and lowering blood sugar levels. Exercising can literally save your life. Another advantage include preventing cardiovascular disease, because people with diabetes can develop coronary disease as a result of insulin resistance syndrome.

What Diabetics Often Do Wrong When Exercising

According to DeWayne McCulley, those with diabetes often focus on losing weight when exercising. The truth is, you should be focusing on getting healthy instead. If you focus too much your attention on dropping pounds, you may only get a temporary solution as you may not be aware that the body still actually produces too much insulin.

Another mistake that people often do is to spend their time too much doing cardio exercises. Performing exercises such as aerobics is of course beneficial for cardiovascular health, but doing it too much will cause you to lose your lean muscle tissue. As a result, your metabolism rate will decrease and losing weight plus getting healthy can be difficult instead.

A Couple Precautions Before Exercising

You should discuss with your doctor before exercising, especially if complications such as heart disease and neuropathy have already developed. Also, don't forget to drink enough water before starting to exercise so that dehydration can be prevented. If dehydration occurs, your blood sugar levels can get higher.

3 Types of Exercises That Diabetics Should Practice

As what we've discussed before, many diabetes patients practice cardio exercises too much while there are actually 3 types of exercises that should be practiced in order to get the desired result, which is reversing type 2 diabetes.

1. Strength Training

Strength training involves the use of the resistance to muscular contraction to build the strength, anaerobic endurance, as well as size of skeletal muscles. You can perform strength training safely at home by lifting light weights. Other exercises include benchpress and abdominal crunch.

2. Aerobic Exercises

Basically, they are exercises that will increase your heart rate as well as raise your rate of breathing. Aerobic exercises include walking, running, dancing, playing tennis, swimming, stair climbing, bicycling, and many more.

3. Anaerobic Exercises

If you practice anaerobic exercises, your working muscle will use up oxygen faster (than what can be supplied by the body). They give lower effect on your cardiovascular system. The exercises include weight lifting, sprints, jumping, sit-ups, squats, and push-ups.

The Proper Exercises for Those with Diabetes

Research has proven that a combination of aerobic exercises and strength training will bring the most optimum results for diabetics.

Instead of focusing too much on aerobic exercises, you should have a consistent exercise regiment with the components below:

1. Cardio warm-up / stretching: including light stretching, Pilates, and yoga

The warm-up should be 5 to 10 minutes of of aerobics (walking, etc). It should be done at a low intensity level.

2. Strength training: including weight lifting and water exercise (anaerobics)

3. Cardio training / cool-down - aerobics ( walking, running, bicycling) / anaerobics

The cool-down is meant to slow down your heart rate gradually. Do this about 5 to 10 minutes.

Tips to Optimize Your Exercises:

1. Increase your day-to-day physical activities (walking instead of driving when possible, taking the stairs, gardening, etc)

2. Begin your exercises with a low duration, about 10 to 15 minutes. Then, little by little work up to 30 to 60 minutes.

2. Exercise on alternate days for 4 times / week, instead of just 2 hours every weekend.

3. Gradually, increase your exercise frequency to 5 to 6 times per week.

4. Monitor your blood glucose prior to and after exercising. Stop exercising when it is more than 300. When it is less than 90, eat some snacks prior to exercising.

5. Get enough fluids as well as foods so you can do the exercises well.

6. For type 2 diabetics who are over 70 years old, more strength training is recommended to build muscle.

About DeWayne McCulley - The Near-Death Survivor Who Is Now LivingDiabetes-Free

About DeWayne McCulley - Who Is He?

Dewayne McCulley, Being Interviewed

If you are living with type 2 diabetes, you should be inspired by DeWayne McCulley’s story.

McCulley is a former diabetes sufferer who is now an author, a diabetes educator, and has been the CEO of Death to Diabetes, LLC since 2002 with clients coming from all over the world.

Although McCulley doesn’t have a medical background, it was his experience as a Xerox engineer of more than 30 years that actually helped him reverse his diabetes naturally.

How come? Well, here’s the story…

With his engineering background, he actually used his experience of near-death diabetic coma and working with the American Diabetes Association’s support group to write the acclaimed Death to Diabetes - The 6 Stages of Type 2 Diabetes Control and Reversal (published in October 2005), of which the Death to Diabetes e-book (focusing only on the 10 key steps to cure diabetes) is based upon. His background in engineering research, writing technical reports, and test data analysis coupled with his diabetes education helped him a lot in reversing the disease and writing the book.

McCulley survived a near-death diabetic coma regardless of a blood glucose of 1337, which is 1200 points above the normal level. His endocrinologist stated that his diabetes was unique and that they did not have enough medical data about it. Since he was an engineer, he decided to collect more data to be able to draw conclusions. With the help of his daughter, Cynthia, McCulley started testing his blood glucose 7 to 8 times each day, instead of the suggested 3 to 4 times each day. In a month’s time, he got more data compared to a typical person with diabetes collects in 2 or 3 month’s time.

One day, he loaded insulin with a lower dosage for the next 3 to 4 days of insulin shots by mistake because of his blurry vision. His daughter noticed that his blood glucose readings did not get any higher, but they went a little lower instead. When he called his endocrinologist, he was told that the lower readings were in fact an anomaly. Again, as an engineer, he decided to perform further testing so he could collect more data.

Finally, he was able to use the data to wean himself off the insulin. In a month, he only had 15 units of insulin per day, instead of 60 units a day. In another 2 week, he was down to zero units.  3 months later, he then went back to visit his endocrinologist and his average blood glucose level was 87.5 mg/dl (for a diabetic, the average level is 150-190 mg/dl) and his hemoglobin A1C was 4.5% (the normal level is 4.3%-5.5%).

Another accidental thing that helped McCulley was when he had run out of cereals for breakfast. When he tried to get what was in the refrigerator, he found some Brussel sprouts. Although he didn’t like Brussel sprouts, he decided to heat them quickly with some olive oil and salmon. 2 hours after breakfast, he measured his blood glucose and the result was surprising: it hadn’t spiked like what had happened before.

As a result, he decided to get some Brussel sprouts for lunch, mid-afternoon snack, as well as dinner. He then replaced his cereal with a green vegetable as a source of carbohydrate. As time went by, his blood glucose levels were going down steadily. That’s why he recommends all diabetics to start their day with a superior breakfast.

5 Tips to Treat and Reverse Type 2 Diabetes Naturally

Different from type 1 diabetes where one has insulin deficiency and of which cure is not known yet (although research has shown that it can be prevented by getting enough vitamin D), type 2 diabetes is in fact reversible.
To be able to treat and also cure type 2 diabetes naturally, following are some tips you can apply:

1.       Get Enough Vitamin D

Those having type 1 or type 2 diabetes can greatly benefit from getting sufficient vitamin D, whether from the sun, foods or supplements. This is because vitamin D is very beneficial in helping the pancreas produce insulin.

2.       Stay Away from Trans Fats

Avoid foods containing trans fats, for example French fries, fried foods, pretzels, cookies and crackers. Stay away from foods processed with hydrogenated oil, since their essential fatty acids can be destroyed.

3.       Do Regular Exercises

You should be more active physically, since it can increase your insulin sensitivity. A 10 minute low-intensity walk one hour after dinner can give you more energy as well as make you get better sleep, which is beneficial in improving diabetes since getting inadequate sleep can reduce leptin levels that lead to insulin resistance.

4.       Eat These Super Foods

Did you know that there are “super” foods for diabetics to improve or cure diabetes? The super foods include berries rich in anti-oxidants (strawberries, blueberries, etc.), fish containing high omega-3 fatty acids (such as salmon and tuna), organic whole grains (barley, oat), lean protein (e.g. nuts and seeds, as well as yogurt), and liquids (including filtered water and green or herbal teas).

5.       Join A Support Group

Getting support by fellow diabetics can help treat and cure the condition. You should surround yourself with hopeful individuals to get emotional as well as practical support. To find a diabetes support group, you can ask your doctor or go to online discussion boards or forums.

Those are several tips you can apply to start curing type 2 diabetes without drugs.

DeWayne McCulley, the author of Death to Diabetes, has proven that you can be free from diabetes. Go check out his 10 steps of reversing diabetes naturally. Mr. McCulley has received great reviews from its readers who reported positive results.

The Powerful Super Meal Model

Illustration - the proper foods to start beating type 2 diabetes

The Death to Diabetes Super Meal Model is not just a typical diet for diabetics. It is more than that. It is neither a low fat diet since in fact it will end up making you fat instead. Ironic, isn't it?

So what's this Super Meal all about?

The Super Meal Model is specifically created to control and reverse type 2 diabetes. It has many of Zone Diet, Mediterranean Diet, Asian Diet, as well as South Beach Diet's attributes. With this super meal model, you will be able to have a more sustained energy level and have the key nutrients you won't be able to get when consuming traditional overly-procesed, grain-based, or starchy meal.

The Super Meal Model is very effective because it has an extremely nutrient-dense protocol that is capable of providing the nutrients important to the effectiveness of diabetes diet such as antioxidants, magnesium, potassium, fiber, omega-3 EFAs, carotenoids, and water. Therefore, you will be able stabilize blood glucose, repair cells, as well as regulate the production and utilization of insulin.

Here are the attributes of the Death to Diabetes Super Meal Model:

  • Smaller meals of 400 to 500 calories

  • More frequent meals of 4 to 6 times eac day

  • Balance of macronutrients (super proteins, super fats, super carbs, and liquids)

  • Hi gh fiber content of 30 to 35 grams per day

  • Key micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals

  • 50% to 80% of raw vegetables

  • Fermented foods of 3 to 5 times each week

  • Food-based nutritional supplementation

  • Some raw fruits

  • Minimum or no alcohol, drugs, and caffeine

  • Minimum or no nitrates, artificial sweeteners, PHO, and food additives

Now following is the example of how to use the Super Meal Model:

For breakfast, provide broccoli (vegetable) for super carbohydrate, then salmon or egg for super protein, olive oil for super fat, and water or juice for super liquid. For lunch, provide vegetable for carbohydrate, chicken or egg for protein, olive oil for fat, and water or tea for liquid. For dinner, provide vegetable and grain for carbohydrate, chicken or salmon for protein, olive oil for fat, and water or juice for liquid. While for the snack, eat fruit for carbohydrate, nuts or seeds for protein and fat, and water for liquid.

For an example of super meal recipe or the proper food for diabetics, refer to this post: salmon and broccoli.

Remember that nutrients give a greater impact on insulin resistance and glucose tolerance compared to exercise or any other wellness factors. If you like salty, bitter, spicy, sweet, etc, then you can include foods suiting your taste preferences. This will help you stick with the program.
